I took this with my cell phone through my Lunt solar telescope. The Sun was super active this week. On Thursday I counted 15 prominences. The surface was alive with action - numerous sun spots and large filaments. Note the large prominence at 10 O'clock. It grew to about twice what it is in this photo. then, on Friday night sometime it separated and began to dissipate. |

A Monterey high school does its astronomy class field trip at the same time that we're there. The students pick their favorite objects to learn about. Then they come over to the telescopes at night and we show those objects to them in the telescopes. Here are a couple checking out the Sun on the solar scope. |
