Lake San Antonio - April 2011

Fred and I had such a good time in March that we decided to come back in April. Fortunately it was much warmer this time around. Here's Fred waiting for dark.

It's getting dark, but not quite enough to start imaging yet.

We had some visitors in the mornings. Wild turkeys - they make a lot of noise.

Fred getting ready on night number two. We both bought telescopes and mounts that were very similar to what we learned on in Rick Nolthenius' astrophotography classes. Stick with what you know while you're learning is a good way to go.

Just getting organized is the hardest part. Fred's rig is an Orion 190mm Mak/Newt on the Losmandy G11 mount. My Meade 10" turned out to be too hard to image with so I eventually joined Fred with the Orion scope. It's about 8" in aperture and f/5, so it collects a lot of photons.

My rig: A Meade 10" f/10 SCT on a Losmandy G11 mount. The camera we both still use is the SBIG ST-4000XCM One Shot Color (OSC).
