Nightfall 2024

Coming in from the north - at the north end of the Salton Sea.
Nightfall 2024
Not sure, but I think this stretch of highway was used in a chase scene in Transformers: Age of Extinction. I'll have to check that out.
Nightfall 2024
The stretch od RV sips right next to the hotel (right side of the bushes).
This will be full of astronomers soon.

Nightfall 2024
Looking to the south. Hard to imagine that all of these slips will be completely full of RVs and telescopes.
Nightfall 2024
Dinner with some of the Santa Cruz gang. Left cw: Ron, Anna, Lucy, Miguel,
Eileen, Al and Annie.

Nightfall 2024
OK, now the RV lot is starting to fill up.

Nightfall 2024
The schedule for this year.
Nightfall 2024
The Sun is just setting. In the desert, once the Sun sets it can get pretty chilly.
This year the nights were down in the low 50s. Thus, my snow suit. Brrr!!!

Nightfall 2024
During the day I set up the solar telescope. There was a huge amount of activity. Lots of sun spots, filaments and prominences. Here's a couple of guests getting excited to see all the activity n the surface.

Nightfall 2024
The main pool and a shot of the hotel's old western theme.
Nightfall 2024
A fellow that I met at GSSP last summer - Rod and his new (used) Obsession dob.
Nightfall 2024
Just another view of all of the observers.

Nightfall 2024
Another shot of Rod setting up his scope in the general observing area.
Nightfall 2024
Al and Annie's pooch - Luna, posing for her portrait.
Nightfall 2024
Just a sample picture of some of the scopes that folks brought along. I can't
even imagine the amount of money all of the attending scope represent.

Nightfall 2024
Al was running three telescopes this year. Despite some technical issues
I think he had a pretty productive time.

Nightfall 2024
Jeff and Dave. Jeff is a long time attendee that I met back when Fred was around. Dave is a good friends of Al's. They go way back to their school days in San Diego.
Nightfall 2024
Here's Cindy, Dave's wife with her telescope.

Nightfall 2024
Saturday night was the social / BBQ. Here's Al and Miguel. The forecast for Saturday night was lots of wind and a good chance of rain. Didn't get the rain, but the wind definitely kicked in. Al and I broke down our gear Saturday morning and just hung out for the day.
